Segways

Posted by admin on June 2nd, 2011

So I was driving into work on Tuesday after a nice memorial day weekend and saw a meter maid on a Segway. What ever happened to walking?

The bump in meter rates and the influx of parking tickets is paying for these Segways. This is complete laziness. What do you all think?

Following the Rules?

Posted by admin on September 20th, 2010

So I am driving back to the office from a meeting today and I see a Parking Enforcement Van parked illegally on the side of the street.  Really?  I ask myself.  Are they above the law or something?  I mean I move my car to the other side of the street for street cleaning every monday.  I then move my car back to the other side of the street every tuesday.  However, they still booted my car back in March and I am still pissed.

Is it wrong if the next time I see the Parking Enforcement Van parked illegally I deflate their tires?  I obey the law shouldn’t they?

Parking Luck

Posted by admin on July 15th, 2010

My luck with parking in Washington D.C  just got better as of Friday morning!  I woke up to head into work at 9am.  My car was parked on 16th Street.  I walked to my car and noticed it was sagging a little in the back.  It looked like I had a flat tire.  Well that wasn’t the case as I got closer. Somebody had driven right into the back left wheel.  The tire was flat and the axial appeared to be bent.  There was significant damage to the side of the car as well.

What a great way to start my day.  I then looked at the windshield and saw a police business card saying,

Your car was struck at 1:20am.  Please use the CCN # on the front of this card to obtain the police report.

I called the police department to obtain a copy of the report.  The woman on the phone said that it hadn’t been filled out.  I have called everyday since then and the report still hasn’t been filled out. (17 Days)

Why are employees of the DC Government so slow with everything?  If I took my sweet time with things at work, I would be fired.

Another Parking Ticket

Posted by admin on April 12th, 2010

Yup. I got another parking ticket last week. This time I don’t know what to say, it was my fault? I parked on the my block last Saturday around 12:30pm after running some errands. Two and half hours pass and I forgot that my car was parked in a 2 hour parking zone. It was now 3pm and I realized that I needed to move my car. I walked out of my apartment to my car and there was another ticket for $30. I was only a half hour late. I swear these meter maids are watching our every move.

I really want to start using this blog to let people know where the meter maids are giving out the tickets. From now on, whenever I see a meter maid on the street I am going to put up a blog post.

Happy Monday!

Parking Meter Price Increase

Posted by admin on April 5th, 2010

So I was parking at a meter the other day on 18th and I street NW.  I was so shocked that I had coughed up almost $3 in quarters to pay for my parking spot.  I remember when a quarter would actually buy you a 1/2 hour of parking.  What is going on with the price increase?  I was so intrigued by the price increase that I decided to do a little research.  I found a Washington Post article that says the following:

The District Department of Transportation said today that all of them should be charging the higher rates by April 30.

Under the new parking fee rules, meters that were charging $1 per hour will charge $2 per hour. The rate at all other D.C. meters will increase by 25 cents an hour.

What is the District doing with all this money they are making?  It doesn’t make sense that since the economy is still doing poorly that we have to pay more in parking.

Observation on a Rainy day

Posted by admin on March 30th, 2010

You know what I noticed today?  The meter maids don’t give out tickets when it is raining.  They like to write tickets when the weather is nice.  How convenient?  I wonder what would happen if I parked my car in a no-parking zone with a note saying, “I didn’t want to get wet because it is raining.  I hope you understand.”

Meter Maid Parking Habits

Posted by admin on March 27th, 2010

So I was driving down California Street in Dupont on Thursday and I saw a Parking Enforcement vehicle double parked with its hazards on.  The vehicle was blocking the entire right lane of traffic.   The Meter Maid was no where in sight.  The double parked Parking Enforcement vehicle caused so much traffic that it tacked on another 15 minutes to my commute.

Here’s my issue: Why don’t the meter maids have to follow the law?  Are they above D.C. Parking Laws?  Why can’t I write them a ticket?  Do I have the right to conduct a citizen’s arrest equivalent?  Can I give them a Citizen’s Parking Ticket for inconveniencing me?

Idea!!! – Monitor the Maids

Posted by admin on March 24th, 2010

I know that this blog is very new and has already generated some significant traffic, but a thought just occurred to me.  Why don’t we use www.dc-parking.com to monitor the people giving out the tickets?  For example, on my way in to work every morning I see these meter maids handing out tickets.  I feel really bad for car owners because this has happened to me on many occasions.  What happens if we posted comments in regards to the location of these meter maids.  We can alert the readers to move their cars before they are ticketed.

What do you all think about that?

Street Cleaning

Posted by mabbenante on March 23rd, 2010

I’m sure the next shoe to drop will be the street cleaning. Currently, you do NOT have to move your car for street cleaning days, as indicated on the street parking signs. However, its anyone’s guess when they will restart street cleaning. You have to monitor the website to ensure that you are parking in compliance. I think that really puts too much responsibility on residents. Whenever I get informed, and I inform others of the change, I feel like the all-knowing god of parking. I look forward to my ego stroke, as I believe street cleaning starts up again this week. Watch out comrades!!
